This young quar was passed over for the draft on account of his
nearsightedness and his weak constitution, and the shame of this ate
away at him. When the militia formed, he was the first to volunteer.
He is obsessed with the trappings and language of the military, and in
the presence of regular soldiers, he tends to fawning questions and
open aping of their mannerisms and speech. He will loudly declare that
his militia unit is the equal of any regular catrawd, though not when
any regulars are in the area.
