Deacon Jan
Deacon Jan joined the militia after a stray shell ripped a hole
through the roof of his chapel. His fury at the standing armies is
directionless and unbounded. Some days he sermonizes furiously about
the degeneracy of the Crusade, then turns around and launches
jeremiads at the Royalists to an equal degree. At first his fellow
Traeth-mates were amused, then annoyed, but as long days and the
boredom of war strain them, they are beginning to listen more intently
to the Deacon.
