Yawdryl Bachen Yuliar, pykpyk handler

The eldest son of a former gameskeeper on a manor in Coftyr, young Yuliar learned two key lessons from his father: How to treat animals with care, and the appalling ways the upper classes could treat their servants. Now serving in his fourth enlistment contract, Yawdryl Bachen is a pykpyk handler in the 55th Toulmourese Guard. Each of his pykpyks is named after a deceased friend or family member, with Yuliar choosing the name based on some trait that reminds him of his departed loved one. He has seen enough of death; he believes that each pykpyk carries a bit of comfort from the Ancestors to sustain him on the battlefield.

Colour Yawdryl Twoofys Bynsyt

A hero twice over, Colour Yawdryl Twoofys Bynsyt earned his position in the 55th Toulmourese Guard for his heroism under fire in Coftyr. That battle-hardened Catrawd had been in the vanguard of the fighting at Gate 18 in Year 10, and even after that campaign stalled, the 55th Guard were in the thick of many later actions as well. In that time, Yawdryl Twoofys carried his injured Caerten for an hour to get to an aid station, fought off a Crymuster Trench-Daefyl party with a fire bucket and a cook’s ladle, set marker flares by hand to call in an airship artillery barrage, intercepted an enemy pykpyk with the weekly cryptographic cypher, and captured Baenyr Ysuli-Paseun mir Llorcho, to the considerable embarrassment of the 2nd Royal Lyfguard. Frequently interviewed by the Crusader press, he proved to be a popular subject, full of wry and pithy observations on his own career. In the rest of the Crusader army, calling a soldier “A real Twoofys” is a mark of respect and admiration for someone who can accomplish great deeds without turning into a glory-fydo.

But even before he enlisted, Twoofys Bynsyt known as the best Toulmourese Mhudd-ball player of his generation. Light on his feet, with a preternatural ability to see plays evolving, to say nothing of his trick behind-the-back pass (forever attempted by kits playing at recess, to limited success), those who saw Twoofys play live would never forget the experience. And when the 55th finds itself in one of its rare breaks behind the lines, they have a terrible time trying to find other units willing to play them in a friendly.
