“TO THE CROWN’S UNDYING HONOR WE PLEDGE!”

– Battlecry of the Fidwog Fraedarl

Rank and file Fidwoggers, instead of going by the ubiquitous rhyfler, have instead taken to being called “Gaefyn” and “han-Gaefyn”. Roughly translated as “Barrellers” and “Half-barrellers”,

they are so named from the ancient custom of carrying captured rifle barrels (now typically taken from Crusader Bogens) converted into canteens for homebrewed Fidwoggian scotch.

Han-gaefyn are only half-barrellers because the poor quar humping that machine gun around can’t carry any more!

Fidwogian rhyflers wear standard pattern Fraedarl kef wool uniform and P3A pattern helmet. Troops of the Fraedarl Overseas Department’s 1st Army in Creevin have blue trim on the jacket with a matching helmet rain cover, because they’re led by a member of the Royal Family.

The “Sketych” Sprygyt Mk III Semi-Automatic Rifle carried by Fidwogger gaefyn copies many design elements from the Crusader Bogen and uses the same ammunition. This enables resource-strapped Fidwog to make use of captured enemy stocks.

The section’s Bensa F6 was originally a fixed-position anti-tractor rifle before being modified for selective fire. Notable shortcomings still exist in the outdated design, however; most significantly in the matter of reloading. Portability makes the rifle and crew more flexible, but constant motion means the loader must ensure the cloth belt that feeds the ammunition to the weapon has no wrinkles or creases in it as it fires, or the weapon will jam or misfire completely, which, given the size of the round fired, can be disastrous.

The Fynrydhad Scout is a light, one-quar, tractor typically mounting a medium machine gun or scoped rifle. Originally designed for the mountainous terrain of Fidwog proper where a light tractor was required to navigate the steep, rough slopes of Fidwog’s mountains. For operations in Creevin the rough terrain tracks were replaced with a wider and higher profile variant for the mud and grasses of the Creevish plains. The Fynrydhad is a difficult to handle tractor. It requires all of a quar’s appendages to operate. The tractor is steered with the feet, and gears are shifted by hand. The turret is hand-cranked and the gun is also fired by hand. The tractor has earned the nickname ‘Centipede’ in honor of the actual number of limbs required to operate it efficiently.
